The Columbarium

A Final Resting Space

After thoroughly researching the possibility of constructing a columbarium, St. Luke's asked long-time member Brian Hanna, an architect whose work is featured in churches around the world, to design one for our narthex. The dominant element in his striking design is a large central cross, flanked by two smaller, subtler crosses, evoking Calvary. Describing his artistic vision, Brian said, "It seeks to be both stark and rich. It is formal and symmetrical, to suggest that there is, despite frequent appearances to the contrary, an implicit order in the Universe."

The columbarium is made of sapele and alder and was built by local craftsman, Jim Stinson and the artisans at Alsea Bay Granite Unlimited. The columbarium was dedicated in the spring of 2014. Members may purchase a niche as a final resting place. For more information, contact our priest at Stluke@peak.org or (541) 563-4812.
