God's Garden
Our Outdoor Worship Space
Tucked into a nook adjacent to the parish hall is "God's Garden," a small oasis of peace and beauty where one can sit for a moment and be renewed in communion with the Ground of Life, the One from whom all things come. At its heart is a round, mandala-like garden bed where St. Francis stands amid greenery and flowers which bloom in succession as the seasons turn.
God's Garden and Outdoor Worship Space
The garden is shared and enjoyed by St. Luke's extended community of people, birds, squirrels, and other animals including the occasional passing deer. It is lovingly maintained by a small cadre of devoted and garden-savvy congregants who find this task in itself to be a spiritual practice.
Deeply rooted in this same sense of the presence of the sacred in nature, we at St. Luke are currently undertaking the creation of a larger outdoor worship space in the wooded area on the other side of the church. Working in concert with local Job Corps students, we are designing the area to include a fire pit, an altar, seating, and a labyrinth. The work of site preparation has been mostly completed; we hope to complete the project by the summer of 2020.
