PFLAG

Support for Folks, Families & Friends

PFLAG St. Luke and St. Stephen share a ministry to PFLAG. St. Stephen donates space for monthly meetings for both PFLAG and the Transgender Support Group, and houses the PFLAG library. St.Luke members provide leadership for this international organization's mission of support, education and advocacy.

As officially Welcoming Churches, St. Luke and St. Stephen are sensitive to the needs of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Questioning) members and visitors, many of whom have experienced painful rejection by other churches. By extending hospitality to often-marginalized people, our churches demonstrate radical hospitality. In recent years PFLAG presented its LGBTQ 101 workshop at two Convocation meetings, while two other area churches received assistance to establish PFLAG chapters.

PFLAG has focused on making schools and the community safe for young LGBTQ people, who are especially vulnerable to bullying and rejection from their families. PFLAG also works with health care providers to improve sensitivity and services to the LGBTQ community. Transgender youth are becoming visible to their families and schools, and PFLAG has actively supported them with training for school staff and has advocated for remodeling and relabeling restrooms in schools.

PFLAG meets at St. Stephen at 6pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

A Trans Support Group meets at 6pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
